How to Avoid UPS Service Charges

[ad_1]

How to Avoid UPS service charges

1.  Tell the seller of item that when he ships it to mark on the papers that you will be handling your own duty charges and not UPS (United Parcel Service Inc). The seller will be issued a UPS (United Parcel Service Inc) tracking number once all the paper work is submitted. You will NEED this tracking number ASAP.

2.  Call UPS (United Parcel Service Inc) when you receive this tracking number (UPS Toll Free Line) 1-800-742-5877. Tell them that you will take responsibility for clearing the Canadian duty charges belonging to your tracking number and in no way do you want UPS (United Parcel Service Inc) to do it for you. They will insist that it’s faster if they do it, but be persistent.

3.  Once the package arrives at the UPS (United Parcel Service Inc) warehouse in Winnipeg, UPS (United Parcel Service Inc) will contact you that your package has arrived. Confirm that the shipping paper work is completed. You will have to go there to pick up the paper work not the package (not yet).

4.  UPS (United Parcel Service Inc) will hand you the actual Customs paperwork and basic directions to the Canadian Customs and immigrations Office. It’s located at 130 – 1821 Wellington.

5.  Once you find the Canadian Customs and immigrations Office go inside and tell them that you would like to clear the customs on a package that is currently at the UPS (United Parcel Service Inc) Warehouse. Remind them that it’s for your own “personal use”. They will ask for your bill of sale. The employee’s at Canadian Customs are very stringent on what they consider a bill of sale. So be sure that your bill of sale has all the proper information on it. i.e.Company letter head and Store address.

6.  If everything goes well they will direct you to a cashier where you will pay your duty fees (You still have to pay duty but it’s far less then what UPS will charge you). Once everything is paid for they will stamp the papers that UPS had originally given you.

7.  Go back to the UPS (United Parcel Service Inc) building hand them your paper work and take your package home.

! Special Notes !

1.  If a UPS truck comes to your house to drop off the package. First ask them if there are any charges that need to be paid for the package.  If the driver says yes then tell him to return the package back to the warehouse as you need to do the paperwork and will pick it up yourself. Insist this as they have too.

2.  UPS is only open between the hours of 10AM – 3PM

3.  You have 72 hours after receiving your notification that your package has arrived before any storage charges are incurred ($25 per day)

4. If the bill of sale doesn’t say “Made in the USA” you will probably have to pay duty charges

5. If you do pay duty you will also have to pay 12% sales tax
