Nitro RC Cars are great fun to use but they are also a committed serious hobby that will need some time to – Maintain, fix and clean a nitro car. But this does not take too long to do and is a requirement to keep the car working properly and to maximize the performance.

Here’s what you need to know about starting out with nitro rc cars. Firstly there are some adjustments when you get a new nitro model even so they are sold as ( RTR) ready to run, on a nitro car there is a engine needle setting sometimes there are 2 on pro versions and the instructions you get normally have details on this for that particular model and is pre factory set but these often need to be adjusted and fine tuned regularly. With the needle it only needs to be turned a little, about a mm or so counter clockwise at a time and this should get you started and can be fine tuned until the nitro car runs smoother.

Also check all the screws are tight as these DO come loose all the time and if you lose a screw the car might not operate properly or worse you could lose a small part and then the car will need a spare part and be hassle for you.

As any new nitro radio controlled car there is an engine Break-in procedure for the engine. This means as it is a new engine you have to slowly run the first 4-6 tanks of fuel and no more than a few minutes each run, also make sure the body shell is off when doing this so it allows air to flow keeping the engine cool .

Also a important note is to make sure you only keep it at half throttle, with no revving the car or you will damage the engine and limit the performance as the engine must not get too hot, which is why you have to be patient and follow the above.

This is only a short time to do and believe me it’s worth the extra little effort.

Priming the engine with nitro fuel is quite easy and there are a couple of ways to do this. As you pull-start the engine on the nitro car, look at the clear fuel line this is a clear plastic tube so you can check to see if the fuel is reaching the carburettor, if the fuel does not flow all way though then first check there are no kinks in the pipe anywhere, if this is ok then you can prime the engine by putting one finger over the exhaust or air intake for only a few seconds ! While pull-starting the car until you see the fuel reach the engine. Make sure finger is not over exhaust for long or you will flood the engine and lock it up.

If this does not work then i find this option easier :grab the fuel line end that connects to the exhaust and wiggle it off and blow down the pipe and this will force the fuel in, push the pipe back on and that’s it.

If you do flood the engine on your nitro rc car the pull-start will become stiff and hard to pull.

Do not pull until you have unflooded the engine, now to do this you simply remove the glow plug from the heat head sink and turn the car upside down, then pull-start the engine a few times to expel the excess fuel out of the combustion chamber. Replace the glow plug and start over again.

Nitro rc cars are fast and can hit 70 mph and can do flips and jumps and great fun to race with others.

Hyundai Tucson
The Hyundai Tucson offers a good off-roader at a great price. A new Tucson will set you back around $30,000 for the standard 2.7 litre V6 five door wagon. For the top of the range Tucson Elite S, you’ll pay around $33,000.

The Tucson has air conditioning, automatic transmission, driver and passenger airbags and anti-lock brakes all as standard equipment. New car prices start from around $35,500 for the standard model and $37,500 for the Highlander.

If you’re looking for a used car, check for steering stability on the open road and check the body for damage from off-road use. Try and go for a one owner car made after 2004 as these will have the extra equipment as standard.

A standard 650 CCA battery, with 710 CCA available on some models, provides ample current to start the engine in cold weather, while a 130 amp alternator recharges this battery and provides plenty of power for the on board electrical systems. And lastly, with an engine this powerful, Nissan’s 5.6L V8 still manages to remain Tier 2 Emissions compliant.

Four-wheel drive, 4WD, or 4×4 is a term used to describe a four-wheeled vehicle with a drive train that allows all four wheels to receive power from the engine simultaneously. The term has traditionally been linked to sports utility vehicles, or SUVs, which have been very popular in the United States, and are now becoming popular across Europe. The benefit of a car with four-wheel drive is that it allows for normal two-wheel drive on normal roads and superior four-wheel mode for low traction conditions such as snow, ice, slippery surfaces, mud or loose gravel.

In response to criticism by civic groups against using larger SUVs for daily urban trips, car manufacturers are now trying to position the smaller versions as green vehicles, with levels of CO2 emissions much closer to their conventional car equivalents than larger models. For example, Citroen recently launched the C-Crosser, only available with a particulate filter and frugal diesel engines.

These newer models are likely to be popular in Europe, where smaller SUVs have been more successful than larger models, and are likely to be a bigger driving force for sales of 4WD vehicles in the near future. Other examples include the Nissan Qashqai and the Renault Koleos, both combining four-by-four drive and limited off-road capabilities with the handling of a passenger car.

J.D. Power Automotive Forecasting estimated SUVs comprise 1.5 million out of 18.3 million vehicles, or 8% of the car market, in Europe in 2007. Of this quotient, 0.6% are small SUVs, 2.4% are large ones and 5.3% are medium-sized. By 2010, the SUV segment is estimated to grow to 10.1%, with medium growing to 7% and large slipping to 2.2%. By 2014, the SUV market is expected to increase to 11.2%, with medium-sized cars responsible for 7.6% and large cars for 2%. The total European new car market is then expected to be 21.9 million vehicles.

This is of course good news for car workshops. In recent years, TV shows such as MTV’s Pimp My Ride, have increased the popularity of overhauling, or, if you will, customising cars with things like game consoles, chrome wheels and faster engines. But before 4×4 owners go off trying to similarly overhaul their own vehicles, it might be best to invest in a new set of 4×4 tyres.

Donald Cheach, editor of Top Gear Malaysia, recently told the Malaysia Star: “The first thing I would recommend is definitely a set of better tyres. There is nothing wrong with go-fast upgrades as long as there is an equal effort to improve the safety aspect of the vehicle. The wheels represent the unsprung weight of the vehicle. Generally, the lighter this is, the more efficient the performance. Suspension should be looked at next, followed by engine upgrades”.

Ultimately, those looking to buy a new SUV in order to take advantage of its 4×4 capabilities, yet stay environmentally conscious, will find their needs well-met by upcoming medium and small sized SUVs, should they decide to pimp them or not.

First and foremost, you need to determine your needs. What will you need your tractor to do? Do you have an acre or two that needs mowed once or twice a week? Do you need a tractor for mowing, towing, snow plowing, carrying items, gardening or harvesting fields? Be sure to get enough tractor that will handle the attachments you are going to use.

Gas or Diesel?

Do you need a gasoline or diesel powered tractor? For most residential, mowing applications gasoline powered tractors are the way to go. Next lets look at property owners that have 3 – 15 acres and the need for plowing, gardening, mowing, cutting and loading. In my opinion we have two classes of tractor we can look at here. You can consider a “garden tractor” or a “compact tractor”. A garden tractor is a tractor that is really a lawn tractor with a heavier built to it and with the capability of some attachments like a tiller, a blade, snowblower and larger mower decks (usually 54in – 60in decks). Most garden tractors are also shaft driven and can last for many years if properly maintained and not pushed beyond their limits. They can be gasoline or diesel. They usually sell new for $6000 – $10000 with a mowing deck,and can be purchased used for $2500 – $6000 depending on condition.

My personal recommendation for this scenario would be a “compact tractor”. A compact tractor is basically a miniature tractor with full size tractor capabilities such as mowing, cutting, loading, digging, tilling, plowing and hauling. They have diesel engines ranging in size from 15HP – 30HP. Most of them have full hydraulics, 4WD, mid and rear PTO’s, high and low range, roll over protection and are built to work. They have a life expectancy of up to 30 plus years if properly maintained. Parts are readily available. These compact tractors can handle many implements like large belly mowers up to 72in., rear mowers, tillers, blades, loaders, plows, backhoes, sweepers and more. The reliability of these tractors makes for a great used tractor. A new compact tractor with a mower can range from $10000 – $20000, depending on the size and model. Great used compact tractors can be found for as low as $5000.

Farm Tractors

If farming is in your future and you have many acres to tend to, you are best advised to consult with a dealer or fellow farmer before making a purchase. There are many, many choices when it comes to large tractors and farming equipment and it is best to make sure you get the right equipment the first time as these tractors can be a very large investment. Once you have the specifics you need, then search for a new or used tractor that will meet your exact needs for HP, and capabilities.

Pricing

Before you get sticker shock, realize that tractor purchases are long term commitments and that with proper maintenance and use they can last for 30 years or more. When you consider the life span and work they do, the prices will seem reasonable.

Attachments can also seem expensive as well. A loader for example will cost $3000 – $5000. A simple blade can run $300 – $500.

Once you have a tractor and some attachments, you’ll wonder how you ever did without them. I remember when I purchased my compact Kubota four years ago. I took my wife with me and I bought a 60in mower and a loader with it. When my wife saw the price she about died! Since we’ve owned it, she has on many occasion told me that it has been such a great thing to have. We only have 5 acres but get so much use from the loader. I don’t know what we ever did without it!

Gray Market Tractors

Because good used tractors are so reliable, there is a high demand and a relatively low supply of them and good used tractors sell very quickly. A tempting way of saving money is buying an “off-brand” tractor or a gray market tractor. These are usually imported machines designed for use in other markets, being sold semi-legally here. While they can be much cheaper than standard tractors, there are a couple of significant drawbacks.

One is that the PTO systems are not always compatible with US standards. Many of them do not have a mid PTO which is needed if you want a belly mower. A second issue is parts availability. It can be difficult or impossible to find replacement parts here if it’s a model designed for use in other markets.

What ever you do, make sure you buy a tractor that will do what you need it to. The worst thing you can do is to push the equipment beyond it capabilities. It not only significantly shortens the life span but can be dangerous as well.
