But dealers are nervously sitting on more than $2 billion in expected government reimbursements and still don’t know just how much they are going to collect – or when.

In addition, burgeoning inventories of fuel efficient vehicles have been rapidly depleted and now dealers cannot rid themselves of yesterday’s hot sellers. It seems to some we have merely moved the chairs around on the decks of the Titanic.

However, if you are one of the roughly 1 million consumers looking for a new car in the next four weeks, you are in great shape. Especially if you are one of the 750,000 looking to do something besides a clunker deal.

I spoke with a colleague at a Ford store in north Texas yesterday and he had some surprising news. “We just cannot get enough Ford Rangers,” said Heath Shields, Sales Manager for Holiday Ford in Whitesboro, Texas. “If you had told me that, 6 months or a year ago, I would have called you crazy.”

Ford factories are now working 24/7 to produce enough new Rangers, Focuses and Escapes to keep up with the sudden CARS demand. Toyota and GM are reporting similar activity.

The result? Dealers like Shields are sitting on a larger than normal supply of ¾ ton pick ups and SUV’s that would have normally sold prior to CARS.

After almost a year of being the chair of Ford Motor Company, what has happened to the Dearborn automaker with Allan Mullaly at the lead? According to Micheline Maynard writing for the New York Times, “everything and nothing.”

Allan Mullaly exited Boeing and entered the doors of Ford Motors last September. His appointment made him the first outsider to run the Detroit Auto Company, known for competitiveness both with external and internal rivals.

He recently put up the sale of Ford’s British nameplates, the Land Rover, Jaguar and the Aston Martin. On the other hand, he revived the Taurus Sedan nameplate which had been relegated to a rental car. He is also responsible for mortgaging Ford’s entire asset to get the needed billions of dollars for the company’s restructuring.

Allan Mullaly, 62, is leading the troubled US automaker at a time when everyone is doubtful of its future. Ford Motors (also maker of Ford catalytic converter) is now second to Toyota in the American Market.

“Ford’s turnaround is still in its infancy,” said Gimme Credit senior analyst Shelly Lombard in an interview with the New York Times.

After the ousting of Ford of executives like Lee A. Iacocca and Jacques A. Nasser, Mullaly’s moves have been closely watched by the scrutinizing eyes of the press and people from the automotive industry.

After all the criticisms made on his management, Allan Mullaly plans to continue the on-going restructuring program during his arrival a year ago, saying “I believe we have a really good plan” in an interview.

Unlike other new executives who also appoint a number of new officers, NY Times reports that Mullaly has only recruited one Boeing official to be his consultant. Most people in his team are Ford officials even before he arrived. He promoted Derrick M. Kuzak and Susan M. Cishke to be in charge of global product development and senior vice-president for sustainability, environment and safety engineering respectively.

According to the company’s executives, the biggest change Mullaly has caused in the company is Ford moving forward to competition not just with General Motors and Chrysler.

Upon Mullaly’s entry late last year, Ford has held 16 percent of the US market which lowered down to 13.5 percent mid this year, according to statistics from Autodata, a firm that detects industry statistics.

Will Alan Mullaly succeed in turning things around for Ford? Let’s hope he does, and does it soon.

The mirrors should provide clear views of the rear and sides of the vehicle.

All glass used in windows should have no holes, breaks or cracks. Tinting is allowed by law only up to 35%.

Ford Motor Co. announced that it has entered into agreements with two companies to sell Michigan and Mexico auto parts plants.

The companies are Flex-N-Gate Corp. and Cooper-Standard Automotive Inc. The former is a privately held manufacturing company based in Urbana, Illinois. It has agreed to purchase the operation in Milan, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit. The plant is utilized by the automaker in the production of automotive grills and bumpers. According to the automaker, the auto parts plant includes salaried employees leased from Visteon Corp. and United Auto Workers union hourly employees leased from Ford.

Meanwhile, Cooper-Standard Automotive Inc., headquartered in Novi, agreed to purchase the Jarudo automotive fuel rail factory of the automaker in Mexico. Said factory has about 500 workers. Cooper-Standard is a world leader automotive supplier that specializes in the manufacture and marketing of systems and components for the auto industry. Ford had agreed to sell its climate-control business to a French automotive supply company named Valeo SA. The automotive operation is based at a plant in Plymouth Township. Al Ver, Automotive Components Holdings chief executive officer and chief operating officer said, “We’re on the right track.”

In connection with the plant’s sale to Flex-N-Gate, Steve Stamper, president of UAW Local 600 at the Michigan fuel tank plant said, “It’s better than being closed.” The plants were previously part of Visteon, the automaker’s parts wing that eventually become a separate company in 2000. In 2005, the automaker bought back some plants and created Automotive Components Holdings LLC. It is now responsible for producing automotive and architectural glass, chassis, auto interior, powertrain components, and Ford climate control. Said holding company operates 10 plants in the United States and 3 in Mexico.

Aside from selling parts plants, Ford is also absorbed in global restructuring. Mark Fields, president of Ford Motor Co.’s Americas division, said that global restructuring of the automaker’s management team will help give him the resources he needs to turn around the company’s struggling North American business. Fields added that the reorganization will allow Ford to better leverage its global product development resources. However, he said that it will take years for the effort to bear its full fruits. “It accelerates getting our products to market as we share architecture and components,” Fields said.

Chevrolet is one of the most loved automakers in the market. One of its vehicles that were definitely liked by the public was the Beretta. Chevy fanatics were left hanging because of the vehicle’s disappearance after just a few periods on sale.

What could be the reason behind the vehicle’s disappearance?

In 1988 Chevrolet unleashed a more fuel efficient vehicle through a small two door coupe – the Chevy Beretta. There were 6 different models that Chevrolet made throughout the Beretta’s life cycle: the base model, GT, GTU, GTZ, Z26, and the very rare Indy.

On its first existence, the Chevy Beretta has two engines. There was the 4 cylinder 2.0L engine. For better acceleration, the Beretta has an optional a 2.8L V6 with a manual transmission.

As the traditional era evolved into a high tech one, the exterior of the coupe changed. But was what greatly noticed was the huge improvement in the vehicle’s under car parts. From 2.0 to 2.2, the cheaper 4 cylinders even grew more in size to 2.3. The V6 lines of engines used the popular 3.1L that delivered over 140hp.

From 1988-89, the GTU special Beretta Model went on sale. With the colors black, white, and red, the GTU had stiffer suspension and was capable of 0.92 G on the skid pad.

Produced from 1990-1993, the GTZ was the high-performance Beretta. Standard on this vehicle was the Oldsmobile’s 2.3L High Output Quad 4. This produced 180 hp (134 kW) and 160 ft•lbf (217 N•m) of torque. The Getrag 5-speed manual transmission and GM’s FE7 performance suspension were also included in the list of standard equipments.

With more refined Chevy Beretta parts, the vehicle in 1994 came with an optional 3100 series engine, a more powerful one. Though the said engine seemed to be enough for such a light car, it was not still enough for the Beretta manufacturing team. They manufactured the Quad Four which had 4 cylinders that pumps out over 210hp. However, the Chevy fans were in dismay because the innovation was made only in limited quantity.

In 1990, the Indy was manufactured. It featured excellent looking ground effects, more eye appealing style with striking exteriors. It was generally a good looking sports car. It had the colors of bright Sun Fire Yellow and Turquoise, and it offered a convertible as an option. However, the Chevy fans, for the second time, were kept hanging. Only 3 convertible yellow Indy’s were produced and sold in the market.

Due to two major factors, in 1996, Chevrolet halted the production of the Beretta. The first reason was that the competition for rights over the name brand ‘Beretta’ was being lost to a gun corporation in Germany. The second reason was that the Beretta definitely cost high due to the limited quantities, short lifespan with rare models and Quad 4 option.

About Chevrolet Beretta

A front wheel drive coupe, the Chevrolet Beretta was produced from 1987 through 1996 by the General Motors’ Chevrolet division. It was built based on the GM L platform in Wilmington, Delaware and Linden, New Jersey. Among its family members based on the platform are the Chevrolet Corsica and the Pontiac Tempest sedan, which was only sold in Canada. The Beretta was engineered in the same design studio as the Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette Chevrolet – in Exterior Studio 3.

The sales of the Berettas continuously declined every year of production as its fans did not seem to appreciate the two-door models anymore. And in 1996, Chevrolet ended production of both the Beretta and Corsica.

The Corsica would be replaced by the 1997 Chevrolet Malibu. But the Beretta had no replacement.
