Establish whether they’re a private seller or small trader, and find out about the number of previous keepers, mileage, condition, paperwork, service history, running problems, modifications and whether or not the vehicle has been involved in any accidents.

When viewing, check the car thoroughly and act confidently when doing so. Don’t appear too enthusiastic. This will help you to cut a better deal later on. Be sure to point out dent, scratches or rust spots as well, even if they don’t concern you greatly. Make comparisons to models you’ve seen in better condition that are available for sale and pay careful attention to glass, brakes, tyres, lights, suspension and the engine. Picking out even the smallest of faults can drive the price down.

If you’re ultimately happy with the car and the correct paperwork is in place, don’t be afraid to haggle over the price. Dealers and sellers expect this anyway so don’t be backwards in coming forwards!

Add up the amount of defects and take them from the asking price. You can go as low as you like, but expect some resistance from the seller. Use silence and disinterest as tactics and if a seller says they can’t let it go for the price you’ve offered, ask them what price they will sell it for then knock a little off of that and make a fresh offer.

Be prepared to use a higher authority for advice, such as a knowledgeable friend or mechanic. Have a final offer in your head so at the very worst, you can walk away knowing you did your best to save money.

Haggling may be a little uncomfortable, but getting the car at the price you want to pay makes the awkwardness worthwhile.

Japanese automakers such as Toyota and Mitsubishi have a long list of vehicles available to the public.  Typically Toyota has a less expensive range of cars, but they do have some luxury vehicles.  The Toyota Crown is a luxury vehicle made from 1955 to the present.  There have been a number of upgrades to the Crown since the 1950’s.  The current model is a sedan with four doors and some automatic features.

Mitsubishi has produced a range of luxury vehicles in the past and present.  A cheap Mitsubishi is the Diamante.  The Diamante is a luxury vehicle made between the 1980’s and 2005.  Since the vehicle is no longer in production it is very easy to find used models at a lower cost.  

If you want a luxury car but have been unable to afford one finding cheap used cars is your best option.  There are concerns when buying a used vehicle.  Most of the time you want a vehicle that is one or two years older.  This younger vehicle will still have several years left to drive it without mechanical issues.  When you get into a vehicle four years or older like the cheap Mitsubishi Diamante there may be some mechanical issues already present.

The best option you have is to find the used luxury car you want.  Check with private sellers, used car dealers, and dealerships.  You will be able to compare the models of used vehicles these three places have.  For example, the used car dealer may have the Toyota Crown in a 2001 model.  It has 70,000 miles, never been in an accident, and is in great shape.  A private seller has a 2005 Toyota Crown with 50,000 miles, and it has never been in an accident.  Obviously the private seller has the better vehicle, but now your budget is important.  The private seller wants more than the value of the vehicle, and is unwilling to negotiate.  
Comparing the used luxury cars you find helps you get the right deal.  There are cheap Mitsubishi’s for sale as well as Toyota Crown’s. You just need to examine all possibilities, even if you import a used Japanese car from overseas to get the better deal.  By purchasing a used vehicle you can have the luxury car you desire for the right price.  With used cars you may also find that you get upgraded luxuries.

Hyundai’s success around the world is evident as the car company continues to grow despite current global economic challenges. Though sales are down in the US, few companies are performing better than Hyundai in North America, allowing the Korean automaker to pick up important market share. Until recently, Hyundai was a blip on the European radar, but the company has managed to sell enough cars to take over the tenth position across the continent.

Despite Hyundai’s success, the automaker still isn’t showing all of its cards to the all important American car market. Earlier this year, Americans were treated to the release of the all new luxury Genesis sedan, followed up quickly by the Genesis coupe, a car that compares favorably with the Chevy Camaro. The top of the line Equus, a car that competes with the BMW 7 Series may become the next model to be sold on this side of the Pacific, but it is another Hyundai model, the subcompact i10, that just longs to be sold in the states.

Pity that Hyundai has no plans to ship the i10 stateside.

Hyundai i10: Not Ready For Prime Time?

Keeping the i10 out of the US market may be only a temporary move on Hyundai’s part as the automaker seeks to meet growing demand in India, where the car is produced, as well as across the European continent where it recently has begun to take hold. Powered by a 1.1L I4 engine paired with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, the i10 is considered a city car, the smallest car size available for sale. The only car of comparable size to it in the US is the Smart Fortwo, but the Hyundai model is slightly larger with a rear seat to accommodate two to three additional people.

If the model was sold in the US, it would like retail for under $10,000 especially if Chennai, India production was expanded and the car sent from that plant. Right now, Chennai is supplying the i10 to all markets where it is sold, capitalizing on low labor costs to keep the price down.

Hyundai i20 and i30 Next?

Though the smallest of the Hyundai models isn’t being sold in the US, two slightly larger models may soon arrive here. The i20 is powered by a 1.2L I4 engine, while the i30 is powered by a 1.4L and larger I4 engines. A variation of the i30 is currently sold in the US, the Elantra, which replaced Hyundai’s Excel series in 1991.

With the US federal government ordering even higher fuel mileage standards for the coming years, the likelihood of the smallest Hyundai models arriving in the states in the coming years improves. Until that time, Hyundai faithful will have to wait, hoping that changing market conditions will drive future product offerings.

We humans have a capacity of extremes. There are those of us who are honest to the letter and there are those of us who are equally dishonest. Stress often plays an important part of being dishonest, especially for a struggling businessman desperately trying to provide for his family.

Then there are those who are just plain greedy and don’t care how they arrive at their fortune as long as they do.

Luckily, in most countries, there is now a system in place that ensures a basic (some might say very basic) standard that all manufacturers or suppliers of human food must meet.

Sadly this is either not the case for animal feed, or the standards are so low as to be useless.

So despite all the pretty advertising, all the logically convincing and reassuring words from your vet, chances are, if you’re feeding your cat a processed cat food, you’re directly contributing to her ill health.

The big brand names in cat food contribute financially to veterinary colleges, which explains why vets surgery reception areas are now piled high with these brands. But does it spell quality?

To find out we need to look at what’s in processed cat food. Most fresh meat goes for human consumption as more money can be made there. So pet food tends to get the dregs. Dregs can include meat meal or meat by-products (chicken feet, feathers, hair, skin, intestinal waste (poo to you and me), general slaughterhouse wastes), meat not considered safe (spoiled or toxic) or desirable for human consumption, fat, diseased carcasses (which may be far from fresh), including euthanised animals.

To bulk this out, low cost carbohydrates are used, which can include sugar, propylene glycol, leftover fast food, mouldy and rancid grain deemed unsuitable for human consumption, corn syrup, non-nutritive fillers such as sawdust or newspaper and so forth.

So the cat food starts out as low quality, too low in digestible protein essential to a cats well being, too high in fat, too high in carbohydrates and possibly poisonous – 100 Bald and Golden Eagles in North America have died recently from eating a euthanised animal.

Then the ‘food’ is cooked, usually at very high temperatures. Cooking destroys many nutrients which are essential for good health. Cats evolved by killing and eating their food instantly, showing that freshness is essential for a cats overall good health.

To address this, the cat food manufacturers add synthetic nutrients. Synthetic nutrients are isolated and not easily digested by anyone let alone your cat. So a label reassuringly boasting of a ‘nutritionally complete’ or ‘scientific’ diet are purposefully vague as neither are true. Unqualified claims are legally acceptable in most countries with their poor or non-existent pet food regulations.

As this resultant cat food doesn’t look very appealing, colour is added (Red 40, Yellow 6, Yellow 5, Blue 2), obviously for your benefit as I doubt your cat cares much about the colour of cat food.

Now, most processed food is in a dry or semi dry form. This means that you have to preserve the food to keep it. If you purchase any meat product that keeps longer than a couple of days in the fridge, you know it has preservative in.

Some common preservatives include disodium guanylate, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), menadione sodium bisulfite complex (a very controversial synthetic vitamin K.), mixed-tocopherols (synthetic form of Vitamin E) and others considered unfit for human consumption.

All processed food is ‘dead’ food, with no life. Dead food is that which has been cooked, particularly at high temperature and for long periods.

So you might think that buying cat food direct from a pet food supplier or butcher might be the answer. A quality butcher I buy from once told me that most pet mince sold at butchers is all the excess fat they can’t use, mixed with beetroot juice. On further inspection of the pet mince in discussion, I didn’t doubt him.

I read recently of someone buying from a pet shop. As she walked up to the shop from the car park, she noticed a pickup truck loaded down with large boxes marked poultry. On closer inspection she saw they contained pre-packaged chicken pieces. Fresh chicken sitting in boxes, in the hot summer sun, not on ice, not in a refrigerated truck, but in the back of an open pick up truck waiting to be carried into the store for sale to consumers.
